I use a small selection of our favourite leathers mostly from a tannery in Italy named Badalassi Carlo. These leathers are exclusively vegetable-tanned with a special attention given to hues and textures. We primarily use their 1.4-1.6mm Pueblo leather. These are shoulders coloured in a barrel then finished with an abrasive wash that opens up the surface for a faster patina.

I only purchase leather from world-renowned tanneries, mostly from Italy, all of which guarantee and ethical process in their production.
In Tuscany, the Consorzio Vera Pella Italiana regulates the production of leather, including our primary source, the Badalassi Carlo tannery. "The use of this quality trademark is bound to the observance of the Technical Production Regulations that all member tanneries are committed to respect and guarantees leather made by the book. The Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium brings together 20 artisan tanneries of the Tuscan Leather District to protect their niche of high quality product, united by the same philosophy and values of production which are closely linked to the territory."
As a general practice, no Bovines are killed for their skin, instead the leather industry operates off the back of the far larger, meat industry.

The camera straps stitched with Meisi XianGe thread, which is made from a dry waxed polyester.
For my wallets, in combination with Meisi XianGe, I use a Japanese bonded Nylon thread called Supersew MBT, formerly known as Vinymo MBT. It is incredibly strong withstanding over 100 Newtons of force. The Supersew thread is waxed by myself with Columbus wax.

All of my products are handcrafted to last, if taken care of, multiple lifetimes. Leather products age and patina over time, developing more character as they do so. However being a natural material, leather is not always perfect. If there is an issue related to strength or quality that leads to unexpected damage (from reasonable use), I am happy to try and repair or replace an item.

With time and exposure to the elements your leather product will change in texture and appearance through a process called patina. Typically, a leather’s colour will darken and surface buff to a smooth shine. Patina is perhaps the most valued property of traditional, vegetable-tanned leather as each piece will develop a unique character that emphasizes its natural qualities.
Being comprised of fibres, leather will also stretch. For example, a wallet may stretch to fit twice as much after a short break-in period. However, leather does not tend to contract back, so it is recommended to stay consistent with the amount you carry.

Most of the leathers I work with will be naturally conditioned through consistent handling and use, but, if you wish to moisturize your leather product I recommend either Saphir Leather Cream or Smith’s Leather Balm.
